1. Our contribution to Sustainable Development

As an industrial company, we carry a big environmental responsibility. That’s why, at Steelcase, we apply our design expertise to create innovative products with reduced environmental impact. For Steelcase, "designing for the environment" is comprised of three measurement platforms that are key to our continuous improvement commitment;

Steelcase was the first company in the office furniture industry to apply the expertise of the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) in the design of new products, starting as early as 2000.

We are also leading the way in environmental transparency. At Steelcase we communicate openly and factually about the environmental performance of our products through a tool called the Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) and Product Environmental Profiles (PEP).

Always based on the LCA methodological approach, in accordance with ISO/TR 14025, the EPD gives credibility to claims that products are better for the environment, cheaper to maintain and cleaner to recycle than otherwise similar products.
