Steelcase Beijing WorkLife invites designers to refashion Think® chairs and introduces new products
China, March 4, 2010 - Steelcase, a global office environments company whose architecture, furniture and technology products help people have a better work experience, announced the re-opening of its Beijing WorkLife at Oriental Plaza with designers chairs and new products.
To celebrate the occasion, Steelcase has invited 13 of Beijing’s renowned architects, designers, photographers, and artists to refashion Steelcase’s award winning Think® chair, with the finished works now on display at Beijing WorkLife. The refashioning of the Think® chairs is a continuation of Steelcase’s efforts to highlight the talent of the artistic community, a campaign that was first introduced in Singapore last year.
The opening will also feature a range of products new to Beijing, including the cobi™ chair and media:scape™. Both cobi™ and media:scape™ were specifically designed to foster collaboration allowing people to excel through teamwork. Furthermore, both were identified by the Best of NeoCon design award panel for their exceptional design with cobi™ winning silver in conference chair category and media:scape™ winning Gold in media solution.
Beijing WorkLife also brings together the Steelcase and Ultra teams as a part of Steelcase’s integration plans. Mr. Uli Gwinner, President of Steelcase Asia Pacific, said, “I’m confident that the integration of the Steelcase and Ultra businesses will benefit our team and enable us to continue delivering the best services to our customers given the speed with which Asia is recovering from the global economic downturn.”
Steelcase’s Beijing WorkLife is only the beginning of its consolidation program. The company will launch its largest factory in Asia in Dongguan, Guangdong Province on March 10, 2010. The production facilities will manufacture both Steelcase and Ultra product lines, and will initially employ over 400 workers.
